Budget Wood Stove glass cleaner?

If you are a wood stove owner and you have a glass door you probably have ran into the problem of soot buildup on the glass. There are many types of glass cleaner you can buy to clean off this residue but they cost money and may not always be friendly to the environment or work the greatest either. One method I have discovered for cleaning wood stove glass is not only effective but FREE! All you need can be found in your home already. Simple items such as paper towels, water and… stove ash. That’s right, ashes. I know this sounds ridiculous but it works. All you need to do is dampen a paper towel in water and then in some of the white ashes in your wood stove and wipe it on the glass as you would normally when cleaning it with a chemical compound. Now given this will not work that well on extremely heavy soot buildup but it is a cost effective way to clean wood stove glass and more environmentally friendly than using chemical agents. Hey, another bright side to it is that you just burn up the paper towels when your done. It’s a great way to recycle and with a little elbow grease you can clean your stove glass inexpensively.
