Cover Your Vents!

Floor VentIf you have a forced air furnace as most of us do then you will have vents for circulating heat and air conditioning. These vents may also be on your floor, walls and even ceiling depending on how your houses heating ducts were installed.

As we all know the heating system in our home is meant to evenly distribute heat throughout the house. It takes a lot of energy and fuel to heat a full house from a low temperature. It also puts more strain on your furnace to heat consistently for a extended amount of time.

If you don’t use all the rooms in your house you are likely wasting a lot of money on heat and or air conditioning. Simply covering up the vents in rooms you don’t use and shutting the doors can help save you money and energy. Your furnace will then not need to run as long since it doesn’t need to heat up as much space.

So by saving your furnace from heating up unused space you save energy, fuel and money. Plus your house will heat up faster. You may also actually be able to increase the temperature in your house above normal and still run cheaper than usual with this method depending on how much of your house is left cold. This is a great way to save money on heating and it also works well with air conditioning too.
