Save water with your toilet

Toilet Tank DisplacementToilets can be one of the most wasteful sources of water we have in our households and it costs money whether you’re on town water paying a water bill or on a well system paying electricity to power a water pump.

The toilets being sold today are mostly built to be energy conserving by using as little water as possible. However older toilets in our homes are not as efficient. They use lots of water, flush longer and may be in need of repair.

You can conserve a little water and energy with every flush if you have an older toilet. Now in a standard toilet tank as shown above there is a fair amount of empty space for water but the toilet doesn’t always need that much water per flush. Before you use your toilet again try to put a bottle of water or two in the toilet tank. This will reduce the amount of water in the tank by displacing it with the bottle. You can also use a brick or anything heavy that will not run down the drain with the water. Another good part to add is that your toilet will fill and flush faster.

So by by doing this you can save water and money on your water or electricity bill. Not a bad choice when it comes to your bills and helping conserve water.
