A neat product I recently learned about is these washable air filters. They seem like a decent idea and a nice change from old disposable ones. They are apparently electrostatic which helps magnetically attract dust and allergens to it to keep air clean as opposed to fibrous ones which simply filter particles through the fabric. There are quite a few companies that make them and they are a safer alternative to conventional furnace filters when it comes to changing or should I say “Throwing them out”. These filters can be treated the same way as the original ones but you only need to wash, dry and reinsert this new filter into the furnace at regular intervals. Now if you are looking for an ultra clean type of filter for people with allergies bear in mind that furnace filters are mainly supposed to be used to keep the furnace clean. If you wish to have a cleaner indoor air quality you should install a HEPA filtration system to remove allergens, dust and particulate. These systems can be a little expensive but if you’re allergic to many things than it’s a worth while investment. Anyways, these washable furnace filters can be picked up for around $25 and up (more than conventional ones) but it’s a good choice for the environment and less garbage in our landfills.
